  • Club Planning 2019

Kilmeena G.A.A. Club has embarked on the assembly of a new three year Club Plan. Our last plan of five years expires this year in 2019. With this in mind, the Club organised a workshop on Friday night the 5th of April 2019 for the purpose of gathering the thoughts, and ideas of Club members, and to get their views for the future direction of the Club. This workshop was very worthwhile, as some good ideas were captured which will form part of the plan for the next three years. A steering committee will be selected and put in place, to sift through the various ideas, and to select what is achievable. I wish to thank everyone that attended the workshop and took part in generating ideas, gave their thoughts, and were part of the whole conversation on where they would like to see the Club in three years time. Once again many thanks. Willie Keaveney. Club Chairman. more...

  • Kilmeena V Ballina U14 Boys League Div 1 2019-04-04,

Kilmeena U14 Boys played Ballina at home on Thursday on a nice evening in the Division 1 League. We lined out below full strength due to a few absences due to sickness. We played into a light breeze in the first half, throughout much of the first half we were on top of possession but failed to convert enough of our chances. Around midway, through the first half, Ballina scored their first goal on a rebound following a good save from Rurari McDaid in Goal. Kilmeena’s scores in this half came from Frees taken by Darragh Slattery. At half time the score was 1 - 2 to 0 - 2 in favour of Ballina. The second half was a similar affair with Kilmeena on top in most areas but not able to get ahead on the scoreboard. Our defence was strong with Donal Hastings, in particular, dominating in his position. A killer blow came again when a speculative Ballina high ball entered the net in the top corner. Kilmeena fought bravely in the last quarter, but luck or accuracy was not on our side. Further points from Darragh Slattery, Rian Kilcoyne and Conor Feehan made for a tense end to the game. Overall we played well in many areas but will need to improve on our finishing. Our next game is away to Castlebar on Thursday 11th April. • U-16 girls lose opening league game

Kilmeena played Westport B in the first round of the U-16 girls league this evening. The game was a closely contested affair right from the throw in. Kilmeena, playing with a slight wind advantage in the first half had a one point advantage at half time on a score line of 1-02 to 1-01. Westport started the second half strong with a couple of quick scores. It was nip and tuck all through the second half with both teams exchanging well worked scores. Westport got their fourth goal in the final few minutes of the game. The final score was Kilmeena 3-07 to Westport 4-08. Well done to both teams for a good competitive game.

  • Minor ladies with back to back wins

Kilmeena Minor ladies put back to back wins in the league this evening getting the better of our close neighbors, Westport B. Kilmeena 6 – 07 Westport B 2- 09 The Captain for this game was Dearbhla Grealis. Playing conditions were good with a slight westerly wind. Kilmeena opted to play with the wind in first half and made the better start by taking good scores, but even with this wind advantage in the first half the home side should have been further ahead. However, Westport remained competitive throughout the game coming close to bridging the gap with narrow misses. As expected the Visitors started the second half the brighter putting together some excellent passages of counter attacking football of which the home team at times did struggle to contain, scoring seven points and two goals. But despite Westport’s strong start to the half the Kilmeena girls to their credit did not panic in maintaining good possession. As its often said ‘’Goals win matches’’ the home team held their nerve managing to work the ball into the scoring zone resulted in them taking well executed points & more importantly goals that finished the game as a contest. In summary despite the score line this was a very entertaining & competitive game that could have gone either way, with the only exception been Kilmeena were a bit more clinical in netting goals at the right time. Overall this was truly a great team performance, thank you to the Westport for a sporting game. Match Report: Colm Barrett Click here for photos from the game.

  • Kilmeena V The Neale U18 Girls League 2019-03-18

The Kilmeena Minor Girls home game against The Neale this evening Monday the 18th of March. The Captain for this game was Ava Ryder. Underfoot conditions were sticky following on very heavy rainfall earlier in the day. Kilmeena played into the wind in the first half and made the better start taking well-executed scores. Despite a brave performance by a young Neale team there was only going to be one winner. Kilmeena tagged on more scores & by half time they were well on the way, in the second half the home team started where they left off. Despite this, The Neale were not going to give easily scoring two excellent goals, but it wasn't going to be their night as the home team finished out the game strongly. Overall this was a great team performance despite the conditions, thank you to the Neale for a sporting game. Match report; Colm Barrett. Kilmeena 4 - 16 2 - 3 The Neale Match images HERE:

  • U-16 Girls challenge Match

Kilmeena LGFA welcomed Balla under 16 girls to Kilmeena GAA Pitch today in what was a historic day for their club. This was the first time Balla fielded an U-16 girls team and if today’s performance is anything to go by their future looks very bright. Kilmeena had the advantage of a strong North Westerly breeze blowing down the field in the first half. This helped the Kilmeena sharp shooters register a few scores early on which settled the team into our first football match of 2019. The Kilmeena girls played lovely football with great support for one another. Balla defended well against the breeze while their Goalie pulled off a number of great saves to keep the game competitive. Both teams showed great skills throughout the game especially in the second half where the Balla girls never gave up. Thanks to the Kilmeena U-14 girls, Lisa, Eabha and Aisling for making the effort to play with the U-16’s today. The Kilmeena girls that played today were, Aoife Gibbons, Mollie Keane, Holly Barrett, Megan O Malley, Keeley Hastings, Abby McGreal, Aine Regan, Sarah Gilliespie, Laura Kelly, Rachel Gibbons, Ciara Joyce, Evie Flynn, Emma Murray, Megan Mulchrone, Aisling Hoban, Lisa Hastings and Eabha Carney. Congratulations again to Tony, Liz and the U-16 girls from Balla. Kilmeena wish you well in the years ahead. Click HERE to view images from today’s match.

Round 1 of the Kelly Cup got competitive football underway for Kilmeena Juniors this year. This was the first match played by the junior team on the new pitch. While underfoot conditions were good for this time of year, the weather was poor with rain and strong blustery Westerly breezes making football difficult for both teams. Despite Kilmeena having home advantage it was Balla that emerged on top with the Final score line of; Kilmeena 0 - 13 to Balla 2-14 Click HERE for images from this mornings match
