  • Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 3 Shrule Glencorrib vs Kilmeena

Kilmeena: 3 - 08 Shrule Glencorrib: 1 – 04 A good away win for the Kilmeena Adult Ladies team. Kilmeena made the journey to Shrule Community Sports Field on Friday evening 8th May for this refixed third round of the Adult League. As was the case the previous weekend against Claremorris B, Kilmeena were without a number of regular players. Notwithstanding this, the ladies in black & white started the contest with intent and urgency, perhaps displaying too much of the latter in the opening quarter, by failing to capitalise on scoring opportunities created. Defensively, Kilmeena were very solid during the opening half of this game. Ultimately, the visitors did get their attack play on target and registered 2 – 04 to Shrule Glencorrib’s 1 – 01 at the small whistle. Shrule Glencorrib began the second half brightly with a couple of points, to reduce the Kilmeena lead to four points, ten minutes in. However, from there to the end of the contestKilmeena played their best attacking football of the evening, with some fine runs, support play and finishing. Kilmeena’s increased fitness was a contributory factor in delivering a strong finish to the game by the visitors. Whilst there were many good individual performances, this win was achieved by a collective team effort and hard work on the field. Team; Ellie Mai Keane, Sarah Mulchrone, Mags Ryder, Laura O'Grady, Niamh O’Connor, Sinead Hughes, Lucy O’Malley,Julia Sztejner, Sheila Bohan, Ruby Lane, Lisa Hastings,Siofra Hughes, Rachel Keane, Emma Murray, Kate McNicholas. Subs; Emily Irwin for Lucy O’Malley, Eva Mulchrone for Rachel Keane, Rachel Gibbons for Sheila Bohan, Emma-Jane Gill.

  • Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 5 Cill Comhain vs Kilmeena

Cill Comhain: 3 - 03 Kilmeena: 1 – 08 Kilmeena made the long journey to north Mayo for Round 5of the Adult League, on Sunday 26th April 2026, where Cill Comhain were both hosts and opponents. In a game that Kilmeena should have won and a contest that was refereed in a manner resembling orchestrated bias in favour of the hosts, the weather conditions were about the only aspect of this encounter one would care to remember. Kilmeena dominated possession in the first half, so much so that it took the hosts fifteen minutes to get the ball out of their own half of the field. But for all their possession superiority, Kilmeena had just four points to show for the first quarter of an hour’s work. This was made all the more frustrating by the fact that when Cill Comhain did manage to get into the Kilmeena half of the pitch, their first score was a goal. Despite a failure to convert many scoring chances, Kilmeena did lead by the slimmest of margins at the small whistle on a scoreline of 0 – 05 to 1 – 01. The second half continued in a similar vein, a low scoring ‘war-of attrition’, twenty-seven (27) minutes of football – yes,I know………..the LGFA rules say its thirty minutes per half (plus added injury time). But with the visitors having gained a bit of momentum, closing the gap to within one point and the ball now in the Cill Comhain half of the field, well…..anything could happen. And it seems the hometown referee couldn’t take this risk, that or else a new watch is required. To their credit, the Kilmeena ladies continued to play with tremendous effort right up to the (premature) final whistle and the visitors registered 1 – 03 in the second period. Despite the Kilmeena efforts, Cill Comhain scored two majors in the second half and this provided them with a scoreboard advantage of one point at the final whistle. The refereeing aside, all involved with Kilmeena today will recognise that we can produce a much better performancethan this. So, it’s onwards and upwards!! Team; Emma-Jane Gill, Mags Ryder, Katie Moran (Snr), Laura O'Grady, Sarah Mulchrone, Eabha Carney, Laura Kelly,Sinead Hughes, Sheila Bohan, Leah Walsh, Julia Sztejner,Siofra Hughes, Amy Carney, Kate McNicholas, Lucy O’Malley. Subs; Emma Murray for Leah Walsh, Niamh O’Connor for Lucy O’Malley, Megan O’Malley for Julia Sztejner, Rachel Keane for Laura Kelly, Rachel Gibbons, Ellie Mai Keane.

  • Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 4 Kilmeena vs Kilmaine

Kilmeena: 4 - 11 Kilmaine: 1 – 06 A comprehensive win on home soil for the Kilmeena Adult Ladies team. Following weeks of relentlessly poor weather with little opportunity to train on a grass surface and the postponement of fixtures, the sun finally shone and the winds abated, making for ideal weather conditions as Kilmeena hosted the Kilmaine ladies in this fourth round of the Adult League. In a low scoring first half, Kilmeena owned the ball for long periods in which they defended well and attacked at pace through the centre third of the field. However, some poor finishing meant that the home side was unable to make it count on the scoreboard during the opening half. Nonetheless, Kilmeena led by four points to Kilmaine’s solitary point at the small whistle. Having done everything bar convert enough scores in the first half, Kilmeena began the second half with intent. From the throw-in, the home side got possession and utilising goodrunning support play the ball was moved rapidly to the scoring zone and finished to the back of the Kilmaine net, in a fashion that left the visiting side’s net minder little chance. Thereafter, Kilmeena controlled the game, especially around the middle third, including pressing the Kilmaine kick-outs. This provided a platform for attack and unlike in the first half, the Kilmeena ladies took most of the scoring opportunities they created in the second half, in all accumulating four goals and seven points in the final 30 minutes. Whilst there were many good individual performances the result today was manufactured through the collective hard work of the team and subs. Team; Emma Jane Gill, Sarah Mulchrone, Katie Moran (Snr),Laura O'Grady, Laura Kelly, Aoife Gannon, Eabha Carney,Sheila Bohan, Sinead Hughes, Ruby Lane, Lisa Hastings,Siofra Hughes, Amy Carney, Kate McNicholas, Ciara Joyce. Subs; Ellie Mae Keane, Mags Ryder, Emily Irwin, Eva Mulchrone for Kate McNicholas, Lucy O’Malley for Ciara Joyce, Megan O’Malley for Siofra Hughes, Leah Walsh for Sheila Bohan, Emma Murray for Amy Carney, Rachel Gibbons.

  • Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 2 Kiltimagh vs Kilmeena

Kiltimagh: 4 - 07 Kilmeena: 3 – 07 Kilmeena travelled to Kiltimagh for Round 2 of the Adult League, on Sunday 22nd March 2026. Kiltimagh put 6 – 14 past their opponents in Round 1, two weeks ago and they would generally be considered one of the stronger teams in this group of eight. So, the scene was set for what would be a considerable challenge for the ladies in Black & White but rise to the challenge they did. The game was played in perfect weather conditions and Kiltimagh’s new pitch was in good order too. Kiltimagh made a lightening start and had the ball in the Kilmeena net within a minute of the throw-in. Not the start the visitors wanted and Kiltimagh continued to pile on the pressure in the first six or seven minutes. However, resolute defending by Kilmeena after that early goal thwarted every attack by Kiltimagh in that early spell of dominance by the home side. Kilmeena got on the scoreboard in the eight minute and fromthere to the small whistle there was little to separate the sidesin a tough and tenacious battle. Kilmeena led by two points at half time. Having not had it all their own way in the opening half, Kiltimagh came out fighting in the early stages of the second half. Similar to the start of the first half, the home side bagged an early goal and followed up with some nice points. But once again, the Kilmeena ladies took the fight back to Kiltimagh and ground out some scores to narrow the gap to two points. In the end Kiltimagh edged it by three points. Not the highest scoring contest, a reflection of the good defensive work by each side. But a hard fought and entertaining battle. Notwithstanding the loss, there were a lot of positives for the Kilmeena ladies to draw from this encounter, with some particularly good individual performances too. Team; Emma-Jane Gill, Sarah Mulchrone, Deirdre Byrne, Laura O'Grady, Eabha Carney, Aoife Gannon, Laura Kelly,Sinead Hughes, Julia Sztejner, Amy Carney, Lisa Hastings,Siofra Hughes, Kate McNicholas, Sheila Bohan, Ruby Lane. Subs; Emily Irwin for Deirdre Byrne, Leah Walsh for Julia Sztejner, Lucy O’Malley, Eva Mulchrone, Megan O’Malley, Mags Ryder, Rachel Keane, Kaylin Hunter

  • Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 1 Kilmeena vs Westport B

Kilmeena: 2 - 09 Westport B: 3 – 10 The Kilmeena ladies hosted Westport B, in Round 1 of the Adult League, on Sunday 8th March 2026. Having beaten the visitors in the final game of the 2025 championship, the Kilmeena ladies were on the wrong side of the result at the final whistle today. The game was played in decent weather conditions. The fresh easterly breeze (blowing from the gym side) had an influence on the proceedings, with Westport making the most of the wind advantage in the opening half and Kilmeena doing likewise in the second period. Westport led by 4 points at the small whistle and bagged a goal shortly after the restart. However, Kilmeena generally controlled proceedings for most of the second half, applying substantial pressure on the Westport kickout and dominating around the middle third. This purple patch yielded 1 – 05 without reply for the home side and edged the Kilmeena ladies in front with about 7 minutes remaining. Westport finally broke the Kilmeenastranglehold with a nicely taken point to level matters up. Kilmeena responded with a point to take the lead again. Then against the run of play, Westport struck for 2 goals in the dying minutes. Kilmeena did register another point but ran out of time to fight back. All in all, an entertaining game and one that lessons will be taken from. Team; Ellie Mae Keane, Mags Ryder, Aoife Gannon, Laura O'Grady, Laura Kelly, Megan O’Malley, Sarah Mulchrone, Ruby Lane, Eabha Carney, Amy Carney, Lisa Hastings, Siofra Hughes, Leah Walsh, Sheila Bohan, Eva Mulchrone, Subs; Katie Moran (Snr) for Ruby Lane, Kate McNicholas for Sheila Bohan, Emily Irwin for Mags Ryder, Rachel Gibbons for Megan O’Malley, Lucy O’Malley for Rachel Gibbons, Rachel Keane for Leah Walsh, Emma Jane Gill.

The club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Pauline Goggins (nee O' Dea) Fahy, Westport. Pauline served the club with dedication as Club Secretary from 1991-1993 and again from 1996-1999. A true volunteer in every sense, her dedication, commitment and pride in her role were evident to all who had the pleasure of working alongside her. The Goggins family have been loyal supporters and sponsors of the club throughout the years. In 2015 when the club celebrated 125 years, Pauline was instrumental in organising the celebrations, a testament to her deep love for Kilmeena GAA. That same pride was clear to be seen when she stood in Croke Park in 2022 as Kilmeena were crowned All Ireland Junior champions.
