Under 10

October 17, 2019

We thought we had played our last game at this level on Saturday 5th October, when at the hands of Achill we were well beaten. On the following Monday we got notification that we had one more game to play at home on Saturday 12th, against Burrishoole  !

Burrish showed up with a big panel of over twenty players but we had the bare minimum of thirteen required.

From the off our boys played brilliantly , with so...

The U10s started back training on Thursday 28th March with the healthy number of 25 players.

A new innovation, a skills booklet, was introduced at the end of the first training session. This was to encourage players to learn skills, as defined in the booklet, at home, particularly on their weaker sides for six weeks. The booklet was taken home every week and signed by their parents. The progression of players’ skills was evide...

Congratulations to our out-of-this-world U10s who became the only team to win the Geraóid Murphy Memorial Cup 11-a-side blitz twice since it’s inception.

Emerging from Group 1, having easily defeated all three of our opponents, Achill, Islandeady and Kiltane, we faced a strong Burrishoole side, winners of Group 2, in the final. Burrishoole had progressed to the final after wins against Tourmakeady, Ballycroy and Louisburgh. Ou...

Well done to all the U-8, U-9 and U-11 boys that played for Kilmeena and Islandeady this morning. Some great skills on display from both sides. Thanks to all the supporters and management teams that helped out today and cheered on these young fellas.

Well done to all our U10s today in their GoGames away to Burrishoole this morning. Our younger boys had a tough encounter in four eight-minute quarters against a strong Burrishoole side. Plenty to work on but lots of positives to take from the game too. Our older boys, on the other hand, were much too strong for their opposition and displayed some really amazing and entertaining football. Each performed his task superbly, snuf...

The Annual Kilmeena GAA Club Under-10 Paddy Golden Memorial Blitz was held on Saturday the 22nd June 2019.

The freshly painted grounds and manicured pitches looked immaculate as the Sun shone down on the large crowd of players, supporters and volunteers who participated in this festival of football for all the GAA clubs in West Mayo.

Thirty six teams with approximately 400 boys and girls took part.

Six teams took part in the A co...

Congratulations to both of our magnificent U10 teams on their performances in this year's Paddy Golden Blitz. Our younger lads narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semi-final after their loss/draw/win series of matches. They did their coaches and club proud. It's hard to overestimate the progress these boys have made since training resumed in March.

Our older boys performed heroically too, being the only team of three grou...

Kilmeena U-8 and U-10 boys traveled to Louisburgh this morning with enough numbers for two teams at each age group. The morning was wet, but the Sun came out just in time before the ball was thrown in to leave the spectators in comfort to watch from the side-lines. Each team played two matches where the young lads got to show off their skills as the ball moved from end to end up and down the pitch. Well done to all the lads an...

The annual Paddy Golden Memorial Blitz for U10 boys and girls takes place in Kilmeena on Saturday 22nd June. This event takes an enormous amount of organisation to ensure its smooth running and we appeal to all club members - but particularly to the families of the participants - to volunteer to lend a hand on the day. The burden of the work usually falls on the same individuals, year in, year out so this year, please make tim...
