  • Junior Ladies end-of-season review

Our year started promising with good numbers registered and the prospect of building on our inaugural year in 2018 with experienced adult players and girls from the minor and U16 teams making up the panel. David O’Malley continued in the management role assisted by John McDonald. Majella O’Malley and Trish Hogan helped as mentors. The team competed in League, Championship and the Memorial League, which is a new competition run at the start of the season for players not involved with the senior county panel. Although we did not have much success on the field, we competed well in our games and were showing signs of improvement. The panel was unfortunate to lose girls through injury, travel, study and family commitments just as they were beginning to show signs of improvement. This all happened in a very short timeframe and effected the balance and momentum at a vital time in the season. There is plenty of talent in this group and in the girls that are coming up behind them. With belief and commitment in themselves and the right focus, they can achieve success in the coming seasons. Panel: Laoise Kelly, Fiona Groden, Sarah Hogan, Katie Hogan, Cathy McKenna, Tracey McGreal, Helena Kelly, Ciara Navin, Sarah Mulchrone, Róisín Carney, Emma-Jane Gill, Caragh Ryan, Ann- Marie Crean, Noelle Keane, Sarah Lavelle, Orla Grealis, Lucy O’Malley, Sophie Flynn, Aoife Roache, Aoife Lavelle, Chloe McGing, Mary Gill, Aoife O’Kelly, Ava Ryder, Dearbhla Grealis, Laura Moore, Susannah Horgan, Molly Moore, Jamiee Geraghty, Shannon Bourke, Ciara Joyce, Aine Regan, Aoife Gibbons, Rachel Gibbons, Laura Kelly, Megan Mulchrone, Holly Barrett, Abby McGreal.

  • Kilmeena GAA Dinner Dance 2020

View the photos from the evening here. On Saturday February 15th, Kilmeena GAA Club celebrated its 6th annual Valentines Dinner Dance with club members and the wider community. As always, the event was an opportunity for all club members and the community to socialise and celebrate the successes our club has achieved over the years. The development of our club rests on the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Chairman John McDonald highlighted on the night that the Club needs to be organised in terms of coaching, administration, funding, communication, facilities and development. The Club aims to inspire the youth, to support our players and members, and to build friendships within the community. The success of our Dinner Dance reflects the commitment of our volunteers and the progress our club has boasted in recent years. As always, the Kilmeena Dinner Dance acts as an awards evening for the 2019 year. Michael Ryan was proudly presented with the honour of Club Person of the Year. This award was kindly sponsored by Midwest Furniture and presented to Michael by Teresa Smyth. Michael was acknowledged for his loyal dedication to the club which is recognised by his involvement in management and coaching over the years, and his current service as kit man for the men's senior team. Michael continues to support our players and club and is a deserved winner of this year's award. Our Community Person of the Year award was presented to Caragh Ryan by guest speaker, Minister for Rural & Community Development, Michael Ring TD. Caragh was acknowledged for her dedication and fundraising efforts in aid of Western Alzheimer’s. At the end of last year, Caragh was also a recipient of the Mayo People of the Year award. The Barrett Family Memorial Young Player of the Year was awarded to John McGlynn by Jane Barrett. John was credited for his immense scoring abilities and his visible addition to the team. Brian Mortimer was awarded the Most Improved Player of the Year. Minister Ring presented the Manager's Player of the Year to Darragh Keaveney. Darragh was recognised for his performances throughout the season with the club and also his achievement in playing with the Mayo Junior team. A further congratulations to our Kilmeena men’s U21 team on their County Championship title and the Junior Team on their Cusack Cup success. Kilmeena GAA Club would like to extend a huge 'thank you' to everyone who made this night so memorable. A special thanks to the event coordinators, the event and prize sponsors, the band and to Knockranny House Hotel for hosting the night. Thanks also to our special guest Minister Michael Ring, who has aided our club’s development in recent years. The 2020 season is now underway and Kilmeena GAA and LGFA are hopeful that this year will bring more success and accomplishments to the club. View the photos from the evening here.

  • Kilmeena V Castlebar West Mayo Minor A C/Ship Round 1 2020-07-24

Kilmeena 0 - 3 9 - 17 Castlebar Mitchells This was Kilmeena Minor’s first competitive fixture of 2020. Having been grouped in with the senior clubs of Castlebar, Westport, Ballintubber and Breaffy, any game in this division would never be ‘a walk in the park’. Pairc Josie Munnelly (the venue for this game) on a damp dreary grey July evening will not conjure up many (if any) fond on-field memories for the Kilmeena Minors or their mentors or indeed the few hardy Kilmeena supporters that travelled to the Mitchells venue, when they look back on this game. Kilmeena were simply outclassed by a fitter, stronger and collectively more skilful opponent this evening and the final scoreline merely reflects that. Whilst the Kilmeena lads gave everything they had; it was no match for the Mitchells this evening. There were some good individual performances on-field for Kilmeena, but many will know that they could and can do better. This group will bounce back. The only way is up! The panel present this evening comprised of the following: Darragh Slattery, Harry Sheridan, Adam Sheridan, Tom Smythe, Oisin Grimley, Ronan O’Donnell, Chris McGlynn, Mikey Hastings, Kian Moore, Ian Murphy, Cillian O’Grady, Mark Hastings, Robbie Staunton, Chris McNally, Jason McGlynn, Ciaran Kilcoyne, Daniel O’Malley, Rory Nolan & Liam Moore. • Mucky start to the season for our U12s!

Even though it was four months late, it was almost worth waiting for, as Kilmeena U12s finally got to play their first game of the season - a challenge match away to Westport. At times the football matched the mucky conditions but it was a relief just to be playing a game of football. The first quarter was quiet with minimal scoring and in the second, Westport started the brighter, registering a couple of goals and several points to just a few scores from Kilmeena. Westport pulled further ahead in the third quarter but in the fourth, Kilmeena finally settled and started banging in goals and managed a few points too. Westport won by ten points in the end but had the game lasted another ten minutes, who knows what could’ve happened! There were some heroic performances today in atrocious conditions with some classy defending in particular. Back row, left to right: Alan Mortimer, Tiernan Ahern, Tom Cox, Sean Keane, Tadhg Daly, Robbie Murphy, Jamie Durkan. Front row, left to right: Kyle Mulchrone, Cian Moran, Shane Durkan, Kevin Hastings, Cormac Slattery, Felix Zeray, Eoghan Cannon. All in all, it was an encouraging start to the season. Plenty of work needs to be done but there’s no doubt that this team has the skill, desire and heart to make for a very interesting season indeed. Well done boys - your coaches and parents are proud of you all!
