Kilmeena vs Claremorris B Kilmeena 4 - 11, Claremorris B, 1 – 15 Five weeks after their away victory over Belmullet, the Kilmeena Ladies were on the road again, this time headed east to the Connacht Centre of Excellence (Bekan) for the Division 4 Shield Final vs Claremorris B. The weather was kind, with a light breeze and sunshine giving temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius for the scheduled 12.30pm throw-in time. With the earlier game on Pitch 3 going to extra time, the Kilmeena vs Claremorris B game was switched to the main pitch and the ball was thrown in at 12.45pm. Captained by Eabha Carney, Kilmeena played into the light breeze for the first half. Aoife Gannon registered the first score in the opening play of the game, a point for the Kilmeena ladies. After this, Claremorris dominated the scoring with five unanswered points, much of their purple patch derived from winning the Kilmeena restarts and turnovers. As the second quarter approached, Kilmeena steadied the ship and then a good attacking move yielded a goal from the boot of Ciara Joyce. Claremorris responded with a goal of their own shortly afterwards. However, Kilmeena finished the first half stronger with points from Lisa Hastings, Eabha Carney and Ciara Joyce. Half Time Score: Kilmeena,1 – 07, Claremorris B, 1 - 09 Kilmeena picked up where they had left off before the small whistle and an early goal from Siofra Hughes set the ladies in black & white on their way. This was followed by a goal from the boot of Jaimee Geraghty and a long-range kick from Eabha Carney, which yielded Kilmeena’s 3rd major of the second half. Together with points from Aoife Gannon (Free), Eabha Carney (2) and Lisa Hastings, Kilmeena outscored Claremorris B by thirteen points to six, in the second half and had five points to spare at the final whistle. Bar a 7-minute spell midway through the second half when Claremorris B pressed the Kilmeena kickout wining primary possession and turnovers, and scoring four unanswered points, Kilmeena generally controlled the second half. On the day, Kilmeena were very solid defensively. The middle third worked hard throughout and together with the forwards, good scoring opportunities were created, of which enough were converted to give victory to the ladies from the west of the county. A special mention for Ellie Mai Keane who plays at U14 and who has stepped up on a number of occasions this year, not least for this Shield Final, to provide goalkeeping for the senior ladies. She made a number of crucial saves today and delivered some excellent restarts. This was at times a hard fought but overall, a well-deservedvictory for the Kilmeena Senior Ladies. A piece of Silverware to take home and a reflection of the work and effort put in by the ladies at training over the past few months. The learning continues for the players……and management!! More Schooldays to come. Team: Ellie Mae Keane, Mags Ryder, Laura O'Grady, Sheila Bohan, Aine Gallagher, Aine Regan, Sinead Hughes, Eabha Carney, Julia Sztejner, Lisa Hastings, Aoife Gannon, Siofra Hughes, Emma Murray, Ciara Joyce, Lucy O’Malley. Subs: Katie Moran (Snr), Laura Kelly (for Mags Ryder), Rachel Gibbons, Jaimee Geraghty (for Lucy O’Malley), Leah Walsh, Niamh O’Connor, Eva Mulchrone, Amy Carney (for Siofra Hughes), Julie O’Grady, Katie Moran (Jnr), Laura Ingham (for Emma Murray). Scorers; Ciara Joyce 1 – 2, Eabha Carney 1 – 4 (1f), Aoife Gannon 0 – 2 (1f), Lisa Hastings 0 – 3, Siofra Hughes 1 – 0, Jaimee Geraghty 1 - 0. Thanks to Martin McIntyre for the snapshots! - Kilmeena ladies vs Belmullet
Senior Ladies – Adult League, Round 3 Belmullet vs Kilmeena Kilmeena 5 - 07, Belmullet, 3 – 12 Kilmeena travelled to Belmullet on Sunday, 13th July, for this final group game. With temperatures already reaching 24 degrees Celsius by the 11am throw-in time, the game would prove to be somewhat of an endurance test for both teams. Belmullet had only fourteen players available on the day and therefore a 13 a-side contest was played out. With the benefit of the wind in the first half, Kilmeena led by 2 – 06 to 1 – 04 at the short whistle. In truth, the visitors might have led by a greater margin, had they exploited the space in the Belmullet half of the field. There was a good spread of scores from the half back line to the forward line, with a goal apiece coming from the boot of Ciara Joyce and Sinead Hughes. More Goals were to follow in the second half, with Ciara Joyce getting her second major, Sinead Hughes converting a penalty and Aoife Gannon also raising a green flag. Of the four scores Kilmeena registered in the second half, only one was to be a point – this coming from free converted by Eabha Carney. Indeed, in a game which yielded eight gaols, five by the Kilmeena ladies, it was the last point and a free converted by Eabha Carney that gave the visitors a win by the narrowest of margins. This was a contest that swung wildly in the second half, with Kilmeena’s third quarter hat-trick of goals giving the visitors an eleven-point lead. But then, the visitors lost their way somewhat, midway through the second half, allowing Belmullet to score 2 – 06 without reply. With Kilmeena struggling to get the ball out of their own half and the game tied at 5 – 06 to 3 – 12 in the final few minutes, it looked like a draw could be the outcome here. But the Kilmeena girls took care of their own destiny. Ellie Mai Keane launched the ball out towards the half back line, Kilmeena gained possession, worked the ball up the field with no little determination, Belmullet fouled, the visitors won a free and converted it, to deliver a hard-fought away win. This was a victory derived from a never-say-die attitude – a will to win, where substance trumped style!!Team: Ellie Mae Keane, Laura O'Grady, Sarah Mulchrone, Sheila Bohan, Aine Regan, Sinead Hughes, Eabha Carney, Julia Sztejner, Aine Gallagher, Aoife Gannon, Rachel Gibbons, Ciara Joyce, Emma Murray Subs: Mags Ryder (temporary blood sub for Emma Murray), Lucy O’Malley, Eva Mulchrone, Emma Jane Gill, Amy Carney (for Rachel Gibbons), Katie Moran (Jnr). Scorers; Ciara Joyce 1 – 3 (1f), Sinead Hughes 2 – 0 (1 Pen), Eabha Carney 1 – 3 (2f), Aoife Gannon 1 – 0, Emma Murry 0 – 1.

- The Kilmeena Cub's Academy Boot Exchange
The Cub's Boot Exchange will run every Thursday from 6.00pm - 7.00pm for the reminder of the season. If your child has grown out of their football boots, but could be of use by another child. Please consider dropping them off at our new boot exchange. Donated boots can be taken by any family who will make use of them at no cost. Kids grow out of boots so fast, there is no point buying new if there are perfectly good boots available. How it works: Bring your child's old (but still useable!) football boots to Cub's Training Place the boots in the crate Take a pair of donated boots, if needed Check back throughout the season for more sizes This a great initiative to cut down on unnecessary costs and families and unnecessary waste going to landfill. Thank you to the wonderful coaches and volunteers who have worked behind the scenes to get the boot exchange up and running!
