  • Kilmeena V Bohola Moy Davitts U14 Girls C/Ship 2018-08-10

The Kilmeena U14 girls got their championship off to a blistering start, at home, with a thrilling encounter with Moy Davitts on Friday August 10th. The game proved to be a very tightly fought contest with each side matching each others scores in the first half, leaving the difference between the teams at just a single point, in Kilmeena's favour, at half time. With Moy Davitts getting off to a great start in the second half, quickly getting two goals, the Kilmeena girls had to dig deep and fight back which they did admirably. A penalty for Kilmeena with five minutes left to play proved to be the fatal blow to Moy Davitts and even thought they fought back gallantly, scoring a point, it wasn't enough against a very determined Kilmeena side. This panel of players have shown great commitment and dedication in what is turning out to be a long season for them as they now go on to the semi-finals of the championship as well as the semi-finals of the league. • Kilmeena V Bohola U16 Boys A C/Ship Playoff 2018-08-07

Kilmeena hosted Bohola Moy Davitts in this playoff match; at stake a place in the ‘A’ Championship Semi-final on Sunday next. Weatherwise, conditions were generally good for football – cloudy with a stiff breeze and a little damp in the second half. The visitors got off to the better start, scoring two points before Ronan O’Donnell converted a free to open Kilmeena’s account. A few minutes later Kilmeena scored their first from play to level matters at two points apiece on the ten minute mark. In truth were it not for some sloppy play and poor shot selection against a strong breeze, Kilmeena should have had a few more scores on the board as the men in black and white were effectively camped in the Moy Davitts half for much of this early period. Instead, Bohola Moy Davitts took the initiative and aided by the stiff breeze, they won the lion’s share of both their own and Kilmeena’s kickouts; which allowed them a period of dominance and a return of four more points to give a scoreline of 0 – 7 to 0 – 2 coming up to the small whistle. With Kilmeena struggling, a couple of positional changes were made and the home side got back on the scoreboard again with two further points before half time. Bohola Moy Davitts managed the final score of this period to leave it double scores at half time; Kilmeena 0 – 4, Bohola Moy Davitts 0 - 8 The second half began much as the first half had finished – both teams exchanged a couple of points but scores were generally difficult to come by in the opening 10 minutes of this period. Then a 4-minute purple patch for the home side yielded two majors. The two man full forward line of Cillian O’Grady and Sean Prenty linked up; with O’Grady the provider and Prenty the finisher on each occasion, Kilmeena were suddenly 3 points up. But Bohola Moy Davitts were not done just yet and when Kilmeena were reduced to 14 men in the last ten minutes, the visitors managed to outscore the home side by 4 points to 2 but alas it wasn’t enough to deny the men in Black & White a place against Castlebar Mitchells next Sunday morning. Not a game of supreme quality this evening but a win is a win...! The panel present this evening comprised of the following: Cathal Cawley, Harry Sheridan, Adam Sheridan, Tom Smythe, Oisin Grimley, Chris McGlynn, Robbie Staunton, Ronan O’Donnell, Mikey Hastings, Mark Hastings, Jason McGlynn, Ian Murphy, Sean Prenty, Chris McNally, Cillian O’Grady, Ben Lennon, Daniel O’Malley, Jack Walsh, Rory Nolan, Darragh Slattery, Liam Moore. Match report: Michael O'Grady Final Score: Kilmeena; 2 - 8, Bohola Moy Davitts; 0 – 13 More match images HERE

  • Great comeback by U-16 girls

Kilmeena 7-07 to Carnacon 6-10 The kilmeena U-16 ladies played Carnacon in a challenge match on Thursday evening the 2nd August. The match was played in Kilmeena and was a game of two halves. Carnacon with the aid of a Westerly breeze outscored Kilmeena by 6-09 to 2-05 in the first half. The second half saw a resurgence from the Kilmeena girls who managed to turn around the halftime deficit of 16 points to draw level. Carnacon did score a point in the second half and both teams had changes to win it towards the end. The game ended in a draw which was a fair result on the night. Congratulations to both teams and management for a good competitive enjoyable game of football. • Super 10s heroes narrowly miss out on Padraig Mulroe Cup

Well done to our super U10s, runners-up - silver medalists - in the Tourmakeady blitz today. Every player played his part in contributing to a fantastic team performance that they, along with their parents and club, can be extremely proud of. The first of four matches saw our boys comfortably overcome Clonbur in 24 degree heat. Fortunately, for the rest of the day, the sun took a break behind the clouds. Next up were The Neale. This proved a tighter encounter than the first but after trailing at half time, Kilmeena pulled away in the second half and ran out winners with seven points to spare in the end. The hosts, Tourmakeady, were the next opponents and for a short spell in the first half Kilmeena heads dropped and Tourmakeady took full advantage, running in several scores which, in the end, proved an insurmountable lead. A rallying pep talk from Pat Mulchrone before the final fixture against Ballinrobe fired the team up and they tore into Ballinrobe from the throw-in, chalking up some early scores. Some super-human defending then ensued for the the remainder of the first half, limiting an exasperated Ballinrobe to a single score. Kilmeena started the second half as they did the first, taking their chances with a few points and a couple of goals and ran out comfortable winners in the end. After a busy few months, we're going to take a well-deserved break: there'll be no training for the next three Thursdays. We'll return to training on the 16th August. Enjoy the break! Front row, left to right: Adam Moran, Shane Durkan, Tom Cox, Jason Feehan, Eoghan Cannon, Kyle Mulchrone, Cian Moran, Sean Keane. Middle row, left to right: Sean Kilcoyne, Felix Zeray, Tiernan Aherne, Tadhg Daly, Cormac Slattery, Alan Gannon, Jamie Durkan, Robbie Murphy. Back row, left to right: Coaches Pat Mulchrone, Barry Murphy, Mairead Durkan, Kieran Hastings, Dominic Keane.
