- Major Pitch Development Fundraiser
Dear club members, former members and friends of the club, The last number of years have seen our club develop and expand to a facility we can be rightly proud of. We have seen the addition of a new Juvenile playing pitch, all-weather sand training pitch, kicking wall, a gym for all members, two new dressing rooms and extra car parking spaces. The next step in the continued development and improvement of our facilities is the work currently being undertaken on our main pitch. While our pitch has long been considered a good pitch there have been a number of occasions over recent years where training and games have had to be cancelled or home advantage conceded due to an unplayable pitch surface, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall. The works which form part of the club’s three-year plan, consist of levelling, drainage and reseeding the pitch. The work is being done to the same high standard as many inter-county pitches around the country. The benefits of these developments will last a lifetime. In total, nearly 13km of drains will be laid under the pitch. As well as an improved playing surface, the main benefit of the works will be to significantly increase the availability of the pitch during poor weather especially at the start and end of the season. Some adjoining fencing will also be installed along the roadway between the main pitch (behind the goal) and the new juvenile pitch. It is my strong belief that we all have a part to play in the development of our club and its facilities. Our target for this fundraising initiative is €70,000 and I am asking you, if possible, to play your part and support Kilmeena GAA Club with our pitch development fundraiser, “Ball on the Wall”. The fundraiser allows for the name of an individual, family or loved one to be inscribed on a granite ball to be permanently displayed on the wall of the stand. To support the fundraiser, please note the following points: · A standing order for €5 per week needs to be left in place for two years and must reference the sender’s name when being setup so that they can be identified by the club. Banks details are as follows: Kilmeena GAA Club, Ulster Bank. BIC: ULSB IE 2D IBAN: IE34 ULSB 9864 3040 3050 88 · Alternate payment options are available - please contact any member of the finance committee. · If you have online banking, it is normally a simple process to setup a standing order without the need to visit the bank. · Company or corporate donations would also be greatly accepted as part of this fundraising drive. · If you are not contacted but would like to donate, then please contact a member of the finance committee. · If you have family members or friends with links to the club that are living outside the parish or abroad, then please let them know of this initiative. - U12s do the business in Louisburgh - just!
With our panel wracked by injuries and holidays, we only had 13 players to call on for our latest challenge match, away to Louisburgh. The wet and blustery conditions didn’t make for pretty football but our boys did the basics well, tackling heroically to ensure a two-point win at the final whistle. The game was nip and tuck for the first three quarters and was level going into the final quarter. Two quick goals and two points gave us what we thought was a comfortable lead with only minutes remaining but Louisburgh hit back with two goals of their own and spurned a great chance to win the game with the final kick of the game. It was a fantastic effort by each and every one of our lads. Louisburgh had the luxury of seven substitutes but our boys had to play through it all, sustaining injuries to four players who dusted themselves down and returned to the action, and still miraculously held on for the win. With the commencement of the league growing ever closer, this was the best possible preparation for this team and gave their - and their coaches' - confidence a great boost. Well done boys. Back row, left to right: Jamie Durkan, Kyle Mulchrone, Alan Gannon, Adam Moran, Robbie Murphy, Sean Keane, Tiernan Aherne, Sean Kilcoyne. Front row, left to right: Tom Cox, Felix Zeray, Cian Moran, Jason Feehan, Cormac Slattery.

- Kilmeena V Ballintubber West Mayo Minor ‘A’ Championship 2020-08-07
. Kilmeena 1 - 11 0 - 12 Ballintubber Match report - Michael O'Grady: Kilmeena travelled to Clogher to take on Ballintubber in this 3rd Round of the completion. Conditions were perfect for football - dry, sunny with just a very light breeze. Having been outclassed in the first round two weeks earlier, Kilmeena produced a much better performance against Westport last week. So, could this 3rd round contest against the Abbeysiders be ‘third time lucky’ and give the men in Black and White a much needed win? Well, the Kilmeena Minors got the win but luck played little part in this victory. Indeed, downright bad luck early in the second half came in the form of a significant injury to Harry Sheridan – who prior to this was dominating at corner back. Harry was stretchered off and taken by ambulance to Hospital. We all wish Harry well in his recovery. So to the game......... Ballintubber settled best into the early exchanges and accounted for the first couple points of the contest. Kilmeena did create some early chances but failed to convert under pressure from the Tubber defence. However, the men in Black & White began to settle, held possession and created chances and they were rewarded with points from open play and a number of frees converted by the trusty boot of Darragh Slattery. Ballintubber kept their score line ticking over too, with points from play and converted frees. The first half ebbed and flowed for both teams with some passages of very good football mixed on occasions with poorer fare. Only the minimum separated the teams at half time; with Kilmeena leading 7 points to 6. The early stages of the second half continued along the same lines with both sides endeavouring to gain some dominance. At 6 minutes in, it was all square at 8 points apiece, when what seemed like a very simple passage of play resulted in a bad injury to Kilmeena’s No.2. Play was suspended for approximately 40 minutes whilst Harry Sheridan received medical attention. Play then resumed and Ciaran Kilcoyne was introduced from the injured Harry Sheridan. Ballintubber hit a bit of a purple patch and notched up 3 points without reply. Kilmeena regrouped and hit back with two points leaving it 10 points to 11 in favour of the home side going into the final 10 minutes of the contest. Ballintubber got the next point to edge 2 clear. Kilmeena replied with a point to cut the gap to one but time was running out. The game was now in the melting pot and Kilmeena really needed to produce something special to get over the line. And they did. Kilmeena played the ball forward, Chris McGlynn took possession, laid off to Cillian O’Grady who popped the ball to the right man in the right place at the right time and Ian Murphy made no mistake, firing the ball into the back of the Ballintubber net. There were about 3 minutes remaining and Kilmeena dug deep defensively to retain this 2 point cushion and record a win against the Abbeysiders on their home turf. This was a gritty performance from the Kilmeena Minors but most importantly it was a team performance on the night with everyone from 1 to 15 plus subs (Ciaran Kilcoyne, Daniel O’Malley and Jack Walsh), giving their all. There were very few goal chances created by either side but credit must go to Cathal Cawley for his excellent goal-line save in the first half which kept Kilmeena in the game at a very important juncture of the contest. The panel present this evening comprised of the following: Cathal Cawley, Harry Sheridan, Adam Sheridan, Tom Smythe, Robbie Staunton, Ronan O’Donnell, Chris McGlynn, Kian Moore, Mark Hastings, Ian Murphy, Darragh Slattery, Liam Moore, Ben Lennon, Cillian O’Grady, Jason McGlynn, Ciaran Kilcoyne, Daniel O’Malley, Jack Walsh, Rory Nolan. Well done lads!
