  • Paddy Golden U10 Boys and Girls Annual Blitz 2025

One of the highlights of the club calendar took place on Saturday June 14th as we hosted the 19th Annual Paddy Golden Blitz.  This much enjoyed event once again brought together under 10 boys and girls from Burrishoole, Westport, Carnacon, Tourmakeady, Louisburgh, Islandeady, Achill, Parke, and Kilmeena for a fantastic day of sport, camaraderie, and fun. The success of the day was made possible by the tremendous effort of so many. Thank you to the organising committee, those who set up the pitches, the car park attendants, the referees who kindly volunteered their time, and the pitch co-ordinators who ensured all games ran off smoothly. Special thanks to the ladies who baked and served teas and coffees adding a warm and welcoming touch to the day. We are especially grateful to our first aid volunteer on the day who gave his time and expertise to help out when the need arose. Thanks to all the coaches and parents for their support and encouragement throughout the day. The weather was on our side, with glorious sunshine shining down as the players were presented with their medals by members of the Golden family, to whom we are very grateful for their continued support of the club and this wonderful event year after year. A huge thank you to Martin McIntyre who perfectly captured the spirit of the day with his photography. Looking forward to the 20th Annual Paddy Golden Blitz in 2026. • U14 girls shine in Bekan to secure county silverware!

On a wet and wild Monday evening, our brave U14 ladies took to Pitch #3 in Bekan, determined to bring home county honours. Standing in their way was a resolute and well-prepared McHale Rovers side. Winning the toss gave Kilmeena the advantage of a strong wind at their backs in the first half. From the opening whistle, the game was played at a ferocious pace. While the wind aided our kickouts, the driving rain made every touch and tackle more difficult. Kilmeena started the brighter of the two teams, showing real hunger and intent. They played some of their best football of the season—fast, direct, and intelligent. Their hard work was clearly reflected on the scoreboard at halftime, leading 4-05 to 1-00. After the break, and with some key sideline adjustments, McHale Rovers came out with renewed intensity. With the wind now at their backs and some fresh legs on the pitch, they enjoyed a purple patch, challenging our defence with some key scores. But this Kilmeena team has grit. Despite the conditions worsening, they regrouped, dug deep, and played for each other. Their teamwork shone through—turnovers were won, attacks were built, and crucial scores followed. We added an impressive 3 goals and 3 points in the second half to keep the pressure on. At the final whistle, Kilmeena emerged victorious in a thrilling contest: 8-06 to 5-04. A massive thank you to our two younger players, Eleanor and Amy, who stepped up superbly, and to the dedicated parents who made the trip to Bekan and stood proudly on the sidelines through wind and rain. Well done, girls—you’ve done the club proud!

  • Senior Ladies – Frank Kelly Memorial League, Round 2

Kilmeena vs Shrule-Glencorrib Kilmeena 5 - 07, Shrule-Glencorrib, 3 – 08 In weather conditions akin to July, Kilmeena hosted Shrule-Glencorrib on Sunday, 18th May at 11am. With temperaturesreaching 23 degrees Celsius by throw-in, the game would prove an energy sapping contest for both teams. Shrule-Glencorrib began the brighter and had 1 – 2 on the scoreboard before Kilmeena got to grips with the game. Ciara Joyce got Kilmeena’s first score on 8 minutes, with a point from a well taken free. This was the catalyst for the ladies representing the black and white to kick on. From the fruits of applying pressure to the Shrule-Glencorrib restarts, winning turnovers and primary possession from their own kick-outs, Kilmeena went on a goal blitz, with 3-pointers from Ciara Joyce, Lucy O’Malley and Lisa Hastings (2). A smattering of points between the goals left Kilmeena in a healthy position by the small whistle. Half time score: Kilmeena 4 – 05, Shrule-Glencorrib 1 - 4 The second half began on a positive note for Kilmeena, with a fine goal by Ruby Lane. However, instead of Kilmeena pushing on, Shrule-Glencorrib took the initiative in the third quarter, grabbing two goals and as many points, to reduce the deficit for the visitors to fivepoints. Kilmeena were now under pressure and but for the work rate of the home side defence and a number of fine goal-line saves from Ellie-Mai Keane, the visitors might well have had their noses in front in the final quarter. Kilmeena continued to work hard and in stemming the tide in the final quarter, the Kilmeena ladies managed to get the ball back into the Visitors’ half of the pitch. This yielded a couple of additional points to wrap up a home win for Kilmeena. This was a win characterised by 60 minutes of hard graftthroughout the pitch and a huge effort from all the players and subs, in what was uncharacteristically warm weather for the game of football. Team; Ellie Mae Keane, Mags Ryder, Laura O'Grady, Eva Mulchrone, Jaimee Geraghty, Aoife Gannon, Sinead Hughes, Siofra Hughes, Laura Kelly, Sheila Bohan, Ciara Joyce, Ruby Lane, Lucy O’Malley, Lisa Hastings, Rachel Gibbons. Subs; Emma Jane Gill for Lucy O’Malley, Julie O’Grady for Eva Mulchrone and Laura Ingham for Jaimee Geraghty

  • Kilmeena U16s power their way to League final

A superb performance saw Kilmeena U16s overcome Tourmakeady to reach the Division 4 League final. From the whistle, our boys tore into the opposition, competing for every ball and notching up some early scores. In what became was a titanic physical battle, Kilmeena won nearly every encounter against a determined opposition and led at half time by three points. With some neat link-up play and impressive defending, Kilmeena saw out the match, winning by four points at the final whistle. Despite some scoreboard shenanigans which showed Tourmakeady winning by two points, our hard-working team were triumphant! This evening’s result sets up a final next week against Louisburgh, who beat Burrishoole in the other semi-final.  Huge congratulations to all of the players and coaches. Back row, left to right: Kevin Lawless, Paul Ryan, Jason Feehan, Finn Mulchrone, Tadhg Daly, Luke O’Donnell, Robbie Murphy, Charlie McLoughlin, Jason Lawless, Jamie Quinn, Tom Cox, Cian Moran, Kevin Hastings, Jack Ivin, Eoghan Smyth, Alan Heanue, Jim Cannon, Kieran Hastings. Front row, left to right: Pat Coughan, Billy Lane, Donnachta McGawley, Ryan Cannon, Lorcan Holland, Paul Joyce, Darragh Mulchrone, Liam Quinn, Noah Coughlan, Lorcan Lane.
