- Kilmeena U-12 boys win local Derby.
The Kilmeena U-12 lads put in a great performance in Newport yesterday evening, Monday the 22nd April coming away with a well deserved victory. It was nip and tuck in the first quarter with little separating the sides. Kilmeena moved up a gear in the second quarter to take a lead which they maintained in the third quarter. However, Burrishoole fought back in the final quarter to narrow the margin which left a tense few final minutes. The Kilmeena lads defended brilliantly to to hold on to a two point winning margin. Well done to both teams and management for a good sporting competitive game. Final Score, Kilmeena 1-11 to Burrishoole 1-09. Click here for photos from the game.

The Kilmeena U16 Girls home game against Charlestown this evening Wednesday the 17th of April. Playing conditions were good, and it made for an interesting encounter, despite a good start to game ebbed away from the home side with Charlestown been more clinical in taking their scores. As its often said Goals win matches and this was the case today, but in fairness, to Kilmeena girls they didn’t give up taking some excellent scores. Kilmeena continued their Division 6 league campaign with a fine win over Ballaghadereen. After winning the toss, today's captain Patrick “Magic” Golden decided to play into the strong easterly wind in the first half. The conditions proved difficult for both teams, but Kilmeena were settling better on the ball. However, it took until the 14th minute before the games first score was registered. It came form Kilmeena’s center back “Mr Pink boots” Mossy Gill. A driving run through the Ballaghs center saw Mossy bounce the ball through the onrushing defenders' legs and hitting a half volley to the back of the net. Ballagh hit back with three unanswered points before Paul Moran droved through the opposition defence and busted the net with a well-taken goal. Ballagh finished off the half with 2 points, with Kilmeena going into half time with a point lead on a score of 2 - 0 to 0 - 5. Kilmeena started the second half as they did in the first, showing more control on the ball. With Nial “woolie’ Ryan placed in the full forward line, Kilmeena started moving the ball long and got a few lovely scores through Sean Moore, Lorcan Beirne and Ryan McGonagle. Kilmeena could have hit the net a few more times in this game but were denied by the Ballagh goalkeeper and some wayward shooting. Kilmeena and Breaffy served up an entertaining league game in Kilmeena in perfect conditions on Tuesday last. This was a highly competitive affair with no more than 2 points between the two teams at any stage. Kilmeena played with the wind advantage in the first half and led by 2-5 to 1-6 at the break. The second half started with Breaffy scoring an early goal to take a lead they never relinquished. It was nip and tuck to the end as both teams traded points, but Breaffy held out to win by two despite the home side missing late goal chances. - Kilmeena V Knockmore Mayo Adult League 2019 Division 6B
Kilmeena started their Division 6 campaign with an away game to Knockmore on a fine Sunday afternoon. Some of the squad had an early morning dip in the sea to recover from the previous nights game in Davitts. The early exchange saw Kilmeena race into a four-point lead, which showcased some excellent attacking football. Knockmore hit back with a soft goal to put the minimum between the sides. Kilmeena rallied back with two well-taken points. The highlight been a flick up on the run and inside pass from Patrick “magic’ Golden to the on running John McGlynn. Knockmore hit back with a goal and two monster points to go into the lead. Sean Moore was introduced and had an immediate effect with a well-taken point. Kilmeena finished out the half the stronger and went into the break with a 1-point lead at 0-9 to 2-2. Kilmeena bossed the first 10 minutes of the second half and hit some excellent scores. The highlight of these was an overhead kick pass from Lorcan “Pirlo” Beirne into the Magic Golden who linked up with McGlynn for another fine score. At this stage of the game, James “Toe” Groden was beating all at midfield, and Kilmeena had total control. However, Knockmore started to get a foothold in the game and started eating into Kilmeena's lead. With James Groden going off with a bad ankle injury, Knockmore hit the lead for the second time in the game with time almost up.
