- Kilmeena V Ballaghaderreen (B) Div 6B League 2019-04-14
Kilmeena continued their Division 6 league campaign with a fine win over Ballaghadereen. After winning the toss, today's captain Patrick “Magic” Golden decided to play into the strong easterly wind in the first half. The conditions proved difficult for both teams, but Kilmeena were settling better on the ball. However, it took until the 14th minute before the games first score was registered. It came form Kilmeena’s center back “Mr Pink boots” Mossy Gill. A driving run through the Ballaghs center saw Mossy bounce the ball through the onrushing defenders' legs and hitting a half volley to the back of the net. Ballagh hit back with three unanswered points before Paul Moran droved through the opposition defence and busted the net with a well-taken goal. Ballagh finished off the half with 2 points, with Kilmeena going into half time with a point lead on a score of 2 - 0 to 0 - 5. Kilmeena started the second half as they did in the first, showing more control on the ball. With Nial “woolie’ Ryan placed in the full forward line, Kilmeena started moving the ball long and got a few lovely scores through Sean Moore, Lorcan Beirne and Ryan McGonagle. Kilmeena could have hit the net a few more times in this game but were denied by the Ballagh goalkeeper and some wayward shooting. Ballagh tacked on a few points in the end, but Kilmeena saw the game out for a well-earned win on a scoreline of 2 - 7 to 0 - 8. Match report John Reilly: Kilmeena 2 - 7 0 - 8 Ballaghaderreen more...

- Kilmeena V Knockmore Mayo Adult League 2019 Division 6B
Kilmeena started their Division 6 campaign with an away game to Knockmore on a fine Sunday afternoon. Some of the squad had an early morning dip in the sea to recover from the previous nights game in Davitts. The early exchange saw Kilmeena race into a four-point lead, which showcased some excellent attacking football. Knockmore hit back with a soft goal to put the minimum between the sides. Kilmeena rallied back with two well-taken points. The highlight been a flick up on the run and inside pass from Patrick “magic’ Golden to the on running John McGlynn. Knockmore hit back with a goal and two monster points to go into the lead. Sean Moore was introduced and had an immediate effect with a well-taken point. Kilmeena finished out the half the stronger and went into the break with a 1-point lead at 0-9 to 2-2. Kilmeena bossed the first 10 minutes of the second half and hit some excellent scores. The highlight of these was an overhead kick pass from Lorcan “Pirlo” Beirne into the Magic Golden who linked up with McGlynn for another fine score. At this stage of the game, James “Toe” Groden was beating all at midfield, and Kilmeena had total control. However, Knockmore started to get a foothold in the game and started eating into Kilmeena's lead. With James Groden going off with a bad ankle injury, Knockmore hit the lead for the second time in the game with time almost up. Sean Moore stepped up with last play of the game to earn a share of the spoils for the away team. Match report; John Reilly. Kilmeena 0 - 17 1 - 14 Knockmore more...

- Club Planning 2019
Kilmeena G.A.A. Club has embarked on the assembly of a new three year Club Plan. Our last plan of five years expires this year in 2019. With this in mind, the Club organised a workshop on Friday night the 5th of April 2019 for the purpose of gathering the thoughts, and ideas of Club members, and to get their views for the future direction of the Club. This workshop was very worthwhile, as some good ideas were captured which will form part of the plan for the next three years. A steering committee will be selected and put in place, to sift through the various ideas, and to select what is achievable. I wish to thank everyone that attended the workshop and took part in generating ideas, gave their thoughts, and were part of the whole conversation on where they would like to see the Club in three years time. Once again many thanks. Willie Keaveney. Club Chairman. more...
- Kilmeena V Ballina U14 Boys League Div 1 2019-04-04,
Kilmeena U14 Boys played Ballina at home on Thursday on a nice evening in the Division 1 League. We lined out below full strength due to a few absences due to sickness. We played into a light breeze in the first half, throughout much of the first half we were on top of possession but failed to convert enough of our chances. Around midway, through the first half, Ballina scored their first goal on a rebound following a good save from Rurari McDaid in Goal. Kilmeena’s scores in this half came from Frees taken by Darragh Slattery. At half time the score was 1 - 2 to 0 - 2 in favour of Ballina. The second half was a similar affair with Kilmeena on top in most areas but not able to get ahead on the scoreboard. Our defence was strong with Donal Hastings, in particular, dominating in his position. A killer blow came again when a speculative Ballina high ball entered the net in the top corner. Kilmeena fought bravely in the last quarter, but luck or accuracy was not on our side. Further points from Darragh Slattery, Rian Kilcoyne and Conor Feehan made for a tense end to the game. Overall we played well in many areas but will need to improve on our finishing. Our next game is away to Castlebar on Thursday 11th April. - U-16 girls lose opening league game
Kilmeena played Westport B in the first round of the U-16 girls league this evening. The game was a closely contested affair right from the throw in. Kilmeena, playing with a slight wind advantage in the first half had a one point advantage at half time on a score line of 1-02 to 1-01. Westport started the second half strong with a couple of quick scores. It was nip and tuck all through the second half with both teams exchanging well worked scores. Westport got their fourth goal in the final few minutes of the game. The final score was Kilmeena 3-07 to Westport 4-08. Well done to both teams for a good competitive game.
- Minor ladies with back to back wins
Kilmeena Minor ladies put back to back wins in the league this evening getting the better of our close neighbors, Westport B. Kilmeena 6 – 07 Westport B 2- 09 The Captain for this game was Dearbhla Grealis. Playing conditions were good with a slight westerly wind. Kilmeena opted to play with the wind in first half and made the better start by taking good scores, but even with this wind advantage in the first half the home side should have been further ahead. However, Westport remained competitive throughout the game coming close to bridging the gap with narrow misses. As expected the Visitors started the second half the brighter putting together some excellent passages of counter attacking football of which the home team at times did struggle to contain, scoring seven points and two goals. But despite Westport’s strong start to the half the Kilmeena girls to their credit did not panic in maintaining good possession. As its often said ‘’Goals win matches’’ the home team held their nerve managing to work the ball into the scoring zone resulted in them taking well executed points & more importantly goals that finished the game as a contest. In summary despite the score line this was a very entertaining & competitive game that could have gone either way, with the only exception been Kilmeena were a bit more clinical in netting goals at the right time. Overall this was truly a great team performance, thank you to the Westport for a sporting game. Match Report: Colm Barrett Click here for photos from the game.
