  • Senior Ladies - Adult League, Round 1 Kilmaine vs Kilmeena

Kilmeena travelled to Kilmaine on Sunday 4th May for this 1stRound of the Adult League. This was essentially a game of two halves with contrasting fortunes for the Kilmeena Ladies, either side of the small whistle. The first 30 minutes of football provided a very competitive and entertaining contest. Kilmeena gave as good as they got. The ladies in black and white defended well when required, including a fine goal-line save by Ellie Mai Keane in the early stages, to deny Kilmaine a 3-point boost. At the other end, Kilmeena moved the ball at pace and got some decent scores, to take a half time lead of 2 points. Half time score: Kilmeena 2 – 07, Aghamore 1 - 8 The second half resembled a totally different game for both the hosts and visitors, with Kilmaine excelling, whilst Kilmeena struggled to get into the game. The Kilmeena ladies continued to defend heroically but with their attack play breaking down all too frequently, this resulted in counter-attacks and a continuous onslaught by Kilmaine. The nature of the 2nd half of this contest became energy sapping for the ladies in black and white but to their credit, they kept fighting for every ball until the final whistle. A lot learned in defeat but plenty of positives to work off in training. Kilmaine 3 -17, Kilmeena 2 - 08 Team; Ellie Mae Keane, Sarah Mulchrone, Laura O'Grady, Katie Moran, Sheila Bohan, Aoife Gannon, Sinead Hughes, Eabha Carney, Laura Kelly, Niamh O’Connor, Amy Carney,Leah Walsh, Lucy O’Malley, Lisa Hastings, Rachel Gibbons. Subs; Rachel Keane for Rachel Gibbons, Mags Ryder for Lucy O’Malley and Julie O’Grady for Sarah Mulchrone. Scorers; E Carney 1 - 4 (2f), L Hastings 1 - 3, A Carney 0 – 1.

  • Senior Ladies - Memorial League, Round 3 Kilmeena vs Aghamore B

Kilmeena hosted Aghamore B on Saturday, 26th April. By the 6.30pm throw-in time, the brighter and drier weather conditions of earlier in the day had been replaced with a fresh breeze and rain. This made for greasy underfoot conditions and difficult ball handling. The early stages saw Kilmeena come under pressure from Aghamore attacks and but for some wayward finishing by the visitors, Kilmeena would have found themselves in arrears on the scoreboard. The Kilmeena ladies settled themselves and at 8 minutes in, they landed their first score of the game from open play. In similar fashion to the previous (Round 2) game, once on the scoreboard, the ladies in black & white generally dominated for long periods of the remainder of the first half. This dominance was achieved in no small part by the pressure put on the visitors’ restarts, which yielded significant primary possession and provided the launch-pad for many of the scores created and converted by Kilmeena in the first half. Half time score: Kilmeena 1 – 07, Aghamore 0 - 2 The second half followed along the same lines as the first. Kilmeena continued to dominate the middle third, so much sothat the visitors failed to launch a single attack on the Kilmeena posts. The game as a contest petered out in the final quarter and in truth, Kilmeena won’t have learned a whole lot from thissecond half of football. That said, one can only play what’s in front of them and a second win on the trot is a welcome start to the season for the Kilmeena ladies. As was the case in the first outing two weeks ago, some good individual displays combined with good support play and asustained work rate throughout the pitch was the difference in the margin of victory for Kilmeena, leaving plenty of areas to work on in training in the coming weeks and months. Kilmeena 2 - 12, Aghamore B, 0 - 2 Team; Ellie Mae Keane, Mags Ryder, Laura O'Grady, Katie Moran, Sheila Bohan, Aoife Gannon, Sinead Hughes, Siofra Hughes, Eabha Carney, Laura Kelly, Aine Gallagher, Niamh O’Connor, Amy Carney, Lisa Hastings, Rachel Gibbons. Subs; Eva Mulchrone for Mags Ryder, Emma Jane Gill for Rachel Gibbons, Rachel Keane for Aine Gallagher. Scorers; E Carney 1 - 5 (3f), N O’Connor 0 - 1, L Hastings 0 - 4, A Gannon 1 – 0 (P), A Carney 0 – 1, R Keane 0 -1.
