- U13/14 presentation of medals for 2018
The winners of the U14 Division 1 County Championship, as well as the U13 Division 2 Champions, were presented with medals by 2018 County Minor midfielder, Jack Carney, in the Kilmeena G.A.A. Clubhouse in December. Jack followed the presentation with an inspirational talk to the group that any player from the Club should be inspired to hear. Below is the full context of his discourse: Firstly, I’d like to thank all management including Gav (Michael Gavin), Mossy (Tómas Gill) and Mike (Slattery). I’d also like to congratulate the U14s on being crowned Division 1 County Champions and the U13s on recently winning Division 2. At your age I never had the opportunity of playing in division 1 – this just shows the talent we currently have in the Club at underage levels and the quality of management that guide ye along the way. I’d like to share a few things that worked for me and got me to where I am today which I feel would be of benefit to ye going forward; At your stage in your footballing career, it is most important never to forget the importance of enjoying the game and having fun. It’s important to challenge yourself constantly and always to strive to do better. If you’re the best on your team, strive to be the best in your Club and County. In football, your comfort zone isn’t ever where you want to be. If you find yourself in a position where you feel unchallenged work harder and create challenges for yourself. Writing down my goals was something I found hugely motivational. Setting specific and attainable goals for yourself is essential. Crossing your goals off the list as you achieve them is massively satisfying and motivating, building massive confidence in your ability. These goals can be short term or long term. Short-term goals can be as simple as improving and developing a particular skill over the period of a month. Long-term goals might be aiming to make the county team in the coming season. Finally, and often most importantly, setting a team goal at the beginning of each year can have a hugely positive impact on the team as all players are focused on achieving a mutual goal. We have everything in this club that young men like yourselves need to play at the highest level, the kicking wall to develop your ball handling skills, the gym for flexibility and strength and also incredibly helpful backroom staff (management and medical staff) to improve your overall game. As a 14-year-old, I went on my first development programme which consisted of basic stretches and strength exercises. To this day, I still use the schedule, and I can’t stress enough the importance of developing your flexibility and skill set as you move forward. Finally, as John Reilly often says, “Always focus on ABC” – ATTITUDE, BELIEF and CONFIDENCE. 95% of your success will come from a positive attitude. Your own attitude hugely influences your personal performance and the team’s performance. If someone has a poor attitude on your team, always ask what’s wrong and aim to help them to change to a more positive attitude. Once again, I’d like to thank the Kilmeena Legend, Michael Gavin, Big Man, Mossy Gill and Mike Slattery, for inviting me down this evening. I wish ye all the best of luck in the future, and if ever you need anything I’d be happy to help. Thank you.

- Kilmeena V Charlestown U21 C/Ship Quarter Final 2018-12-09
Kilmeena under 21 team travelled to Charlestown for the B division quarter final. Kilmeena started well playing against the breeze and traded points for the first 15mins at 3 points each. Charlestown made the best of their chances after that and went in at the break 8 points to 5. After the break kilmeena exerted some pressure and territory but did not get the return on the score board. Charlestown edged further ahead and it looked like it was not going to be Kilmeena's day when a goal was disallowed for being in the square! The final score was 15 points to 8. We wish Charlestown all the best in the remainder of the competition and I believe a lot of our lads have earned a well deserved rest. Happy Christmas to all . Kilmeena Abu. - Kilmeena v Ballintubber U21 B C/Ship Group 3 2018-12-02
Kilmeena U21's travelled to play Ballintubber in a winner takes all encounter. The weather was wet and under foot conditions were challenging. Kilmeena started well with a strong defence well on top. Our team broke into the Ballintubber half and kicked some super scores and raced into a 5 point to one lead. All of a sudden we were camped in our own half struggling to win a kick out. Ballintubber tagged on the next few points to go two points up at half time 0 - 8 to 0 - 6. As the second half started, Ballintubber had the upper hand and their inside forwards were very accurate. The men in red raced into a 7 point lead 0 - 7 to 0 - 14. Kilmeena worked their way down the field to score our first goal. This was the moment our lads kicked into gear. From that moment on we dominated possession and scored 3 further goals in the space of a few minutes. Well done lads, great preformance, great win and fantastic entertainment. On behalf of our team and management we would like to thank all our supporters that made the trip. - U10 End-of-Season Report
Our U10’s concluded a successful season on Thursday evening, 18th October. A quick match was followed by refreshments in the clubhouse and a presentation of a beanie hat embroidered with the Kilmeena crest, along with a team photo, to every player. Our GoGames fixtures this season involved matches against Tourmakeady, Louisburgh, Islandeady and Burrishoole and our lads acquitted themselves very well, usually finishing on top in most of the encounters. We had four blitzes this season starting with the Paddy Golden blitz in June. We competed in the second division and quickly found ourselves in the final following a series of easy wins. Unfortunately we narrowly lost - by two points - to Islandeady in the final. Our next blitz was for the Padraig Mulroe Cup in Tourmakeady in July. Having battled heroically in the early rounds, we made it to our second blitz final of the season, eventually losing to the hosts. We finished runner-ups - for the third time this season! - to Achill in our third blitz final, the Gearóid Murphy Memorial Cup in Achill. Blitz number four took us to Balla where we failed to get out of our group. Such were our numbers, we effectively had to field two teams per game. Each training session this season was very well attended and we were generally pleased with the progress of our players over the season. At our final session we gave verbal feedback to each player on their strengths and areas in which they need to improve. We wish our older lads the best of luck with the U12s next year and look forward to welcoming the new batch from the U8s.
- Thank You!
On behalf of everyone at Kilmeena G.A.A. Club I wish to sincerly express the Club's thanks to everyone who took part in, or contributed in any way, to making the Day of Play a fantastic success. Fundraising is difficult, even in the best of times, but the cost of keeping the club doors open in any given year can be enormous and is a huge burden. We have to do our best to ensure that there is finance there to meet bills coming in, hence the need for days like today, and the National Club Draw. This year we undertook this fundraiser in an effort to try and spread the fundraising load to everyone in our Club. I wish to thank the various team managers for planning the various events - without their input it would be difficult to have held this day. It was great to see the innovation of some of our management teams. I also wish to thank all the teams that undertook the various challenges in magnificent spirit. I also want to thank all those who baked and made trays of sandwiches for todays event. It was heartening to see the wide array of food being brought upstairs. Once again, thank you for your generosity. The club is asking anyone with cards which have not been sold to please make a huge effort this week to sell as many lines as possible and return the cards to the various team managers. Our Club AGM takes place on Saturday, 24th November at 7 30pm, and it is our hope to have this process completed before the meeting. The purpose of events like yesterdays Day of Play is primarily fundraising, but we are also concious of the need to encourage more parents to become involved in coaching and mentoring teams. I think the Day of Play was a good first step. Once again, thank you for your generosity and continued support for the Club. Willie Keaveney Chairman
