- Kilmeena V Kilmoremoy U14 Girls County League Final 2019-10-20
MORE SILVERWARE FOR THE 2019 KILMEENA U14 GIRLS TEAM Kilmeena Girls U14 team took on Kilmoremoy B in the Division 4 league final in a windy Ballina on Sunday, October 20th 2019 at 2pm. Having tasted success in the championship final just two weeks previously this group of girls were determined to put up a good fight for a chance of winning some more silverware. This game was lining up to be a tight contest as this was the third time these teams had come up against each other over the season, victory in the first clash went to Kilmeena, the second time around it ended a draw, so the large crowd of supporters for both sides were guaranteed a tight competitive game. Kilmeena had the wind advantage in the first half, but it took almost 8 minutes before a score was registered, a point from Lisa Hastings. The girls settled into their usual rhythm and free-flowing teamwork and contested every ball. Katie Moran got a point, Grace Gibbons scored 0-3, and Lisa Hastings and Aisling Hoban got a goal each bringing us to half time Kilmeena 2-5 to Kilmoremoy 0-2. The second half was going to be tough on our girls playing into a strong wind, and Kilmoremoy got 1-3 in the first 10 minutes. Our girls dug deep and worked the ball up to full forward Grace Gibbons who hit the net. Aimee Ingham scored a fine goal, and Grace Gibbons notched up another 1-1 bringing us into the closing stages of the game. Kilmeena held their lead but when Kilmoremoy were awarded a penalty with less than 3 minutes to go there was a sigh of relief from all of Kilmeena when the ball went wide. Our girls played defensively for the last few minutes to maintain their lead and they were worthy winners on the day. Well done to all involved. - U11's Finish on a High !
We thought we had played our last game at this level on Saturday 5th October, when at the hands of Achill we were well beaten. On the following Monday we got notification that we had one more game to play at home on Saturday 12th, against Burrishoole ! Burrish showed up with a big panel of over twenty players but we had the bare minimum of thirteen required. From the off our boys played brilliantly , with some determined defence, good passing play and nice score taking. Final Score 5:15 to 2:5 Really looking forward to working with these boys again next year. Keep practicing at home !!

FIRST PIECE OF CHAMPIONSHIP SILVERWARE FOR KILMEENA LADIES CLUB Kilmeena Girls U14 team have made it into the history books. They are the winners of the Mayo LGFA Championship ‘C’ Westaro Cup. In the aftermath of storm "Lorenzo" on a dry autumn Friday evening Kilmeena went searching for a county title against a formidable Kilmaine team in Islandeady. Kilmeena got the opening point of the game and the girls from the shores of Clew Bay played some impressive football taking the game to 1 - 9 against 0 - 2 at half time. The Kilmeena girls displayed a massive team effort and support for one another both on and off the ball. They were very composed and confident with their score taking and team play. Kilmaine were strong contenders and competitive throughout the game however, Kilmeena pushed on in the second half and finished the game with an impressive score of 4 - 18 to Kilmaine's 0 - 3.The performance from both sides reflected dedication and commitment to the sport. These girls wouldn’t have been able to demonstrate such ability without the dedication and inspiration from their managers and parents. Well done to all involved. - U10s end-of-season review
The U10s started back training on Thursday 28th March with the healthy number of 25 players. A new innovation, a skills booklet, was introduced at the end of the first training session. This was to encourage players to learn skills, as defined in the booklet, at home, particularly on their weaker sides for six weeks. The booklet was taken home every week and signed by their parents. The progression of players’ skills was evident at training and coaches felt it was a worthwhile initiative. Our GoGames season was late to get underway, due to Achill’s unavailability for the first fixture. Subsequent attempts to reorganise the fixture were unsuccessful. This meant that it wasn’t until May 25th before we had our first matches, away to Tourmakeady, which proved tough encounters for our lads. Our next games saw us travel to Louisburgh where we played two matches. Both games were keenly contested and our boys showed their mettle in each, getting our first wins of the season. We also travelled to Islandeady for our next GoGame which we won easily. Next up was the annual Paddy Golden Blitz. Having won all three group games - the only team of three groups in Division B to have done do - we were narrowly beaten in the semi-final by a strong Tourmakeady side. We didn’t perform as well as we had done in the group games and our boys were shattered at the final whistle. Players and coaches were disappointed as there was a feeling that we could have gone all the way this year. Our final GoGame was away to Burrishoole on 13th July. This proved to be a very successful outing for us and were much too strong for them. Our second blitz of the season took us to Balla, and while we lost our three group games, we weren’t far off winning all three of them either. Games against Mayo Gaels, Breaffy and Parke saw us lose by only a point or two. The coaches felt that the boys played well in all three games and were impressed by the performances of some of the younger members of the squad. After the splitting of the U10s and U11s, a home game for both groups against Islandeady on September 14th were our final home games of the season. The boys played well, emerging victorious at the end. The younger members of this squad caught the eye of the coaches and gave them great encouragement for the development of next years’ U10 squad. The U10s reconvened for the annual Gearóid Murphy Memorial Blitz on Saturday 28th September and ultimately became the only team to win the competition twice since it’s inception. Emerging from Group 1, having easily defeated all three of our opponents, Achill, Islandeady and Kiltane, we faced a strong Burrishoole side, winners of Group 2, in the final. Burrishoole had progressed to the final after wins against Tourmakeady, Ballycroy and Louisburgh. Our older boys, comprising nine of the starting eleven, went in to the final knowing that, for them, this was to be their very last game for Kilmeena U10s. From the throw-in, they tore in to Burrishoole. Having conceded the first point of the game, they simply overwhelmed their opponents, eventually winning by a seventeen point margin. Having come so close so many times to winning competitions over the last two years it was wonderful to see their joy - and relief - at the final whistle. As it turned out, the only training session that was cancelled was the very last one, due to be held on October 2nd, due to strom Lorenzeo. It was a pity because the coaches had filled out a ‘Player Pathway’ form for every player detailing the players’ strengths and weakness and we were going to give verbal feedback to all the players based on these. All in all, it was an encouraging season with some disappointments along the way but a huge boost at the end. The coaches took plenty of positives from the season. Our boys - and their parents - deserve a long break after their busy season. Parents, please help and encourage the boys to get out of the house with a football to further develop their skills during the winter months. It really will make a difference when training resumes next Spring!

- Kilmeena U10s blow away all opposition to win the Gearóid Murphy Memorial Cup in Achill
Congratulations to our out-of-this-world U10s who became the only team to win the Geraóid Murphy Memorial Cup 11-a-side blitz twice since it’s inception. It’s hard to imagine a more deserving bunch of boys. Special mention must be made of the younger lads that travelled with us today. Their determination, ball skills and positional play was something to behold. Their coaches and club are incredibly proud of this exceptional team. Thank you to all the parents who travelled today. Your boys certainly did you proud! Thank you so much to Ollie Mulchrone for his photos of the event. Our club is incredibly lucky to have someone of his talents giving up his time to record days like these. Check out his photos of the day here.
