- Heroic effort by our U13s falls just short
Hoping to build on our recent home victory over Achill last Thursday, our U13s fell agonisingly short in our away match against Islandeady yesterday evening, despite having just 16 players. We got off to a terrible start - we couldn’t clear our lines and the hosts clocked up an impressive lead by half time. After a quick rearrangement of our players’ positions at half time, we finally started eating in to Islandeady’s lead with three excellent goals. Some heroic goalkeeping by Jason Lawless ensured we stayed in the game right to the final whistle but victory eluded us in the end despite having three fantastic goal chances. It was a battling performance from our boys and their coaches are very proud of the efforts shown by them all. Hard luck lads. Next up are Louisburgh on Thursday week, 9th June.
- And we're off ...in Div 4
Our start in Division 4 league had been delayed by an administrative error outside the club ! So it was nice to kickoff our first game in the correct division this evening at home against Hollymount Carramore. The first half of the game was a tight affair as we played into a stiff breeze but we still had a lead of two points at the break. In the second half , we managed to stretch out our advantage out and win comfortably in the end. Hollymount Carramore had the bare 15 players available and in truth this was probably a significant factor in the final result as we got a definite boost bringing fresh players off the bench for the second half. Next up will be Lahardane at home again ! Final Score Kilmeena 6-11, Hollymount Carramore 4-6

- Fantastic win for our U17s
Division 1 U17: Castlebar Mitchels v Kilmeena Kilmeena travelled to the Mayo capital to take on Mitchels on the 27th of May. The conditions were perfect. Mitchels were there in strength and our lads were under no illusions about the task that lay in front of them. Without some of our front runners, due to other commitments, we were delighted to welcome back Rian Kilcoyne after long term injury and Conal Gill after his exploits with Connaught Rugby. We started well and in the first minute DJ fired over. Great score. Castlebar levelled and took control of the game putting 1-6 on the score board without reply. It was looking like it was going to be a hard day at the office but to their credit, our lads hung in there and stayed on script. Slowly we crept back into the game and by half time we were only two points down, 1-8 to 1-6. Castlebar will wonder how they were not further ahead as they had many gilt-edged goal changes during the half but we had Steven in goal and our defence stood strong. At half time we lost Luke and Rian and we had it all to do. I don't know how we gathered the strength to go at it again but these lads are different to the team that got lashed at the same venue last year. They are mentally and physically different. We tore into Mitchels in the second half and ran up a three-point lead after an Evan O'Grady goal. It was nip and tuck after that but we held out for a two-point win. FInal score: Castlebar Mitchels 2-11 : 2-13 Kilmeena Kilmeena Abú 🏁🏁🏁

- Tough start to league campaign for U13s in Louisburgh
Our U13s suffered a disappointing loss away to Louisburgh yesterday evening, 19th May, losing 10-4 to 2-4. In windy conditions, the boys just didn’t settle and looked tired after a very busy week of sport for most of them. However, while the scoreline looks dramatic, we hope that this was just a bad day at the office and know this team is much better than the scoreline suggests. It’s back to training next Monday evening where some of the weaknesses will be ironed out and no doubt the boys will be raring to go for their next fixture, at home to Achill, next Thursday evening. Heads up lads and onwards!
