- U15s lay down a marker
A wonderful team performance on a soft pitch ensured both points for Kilmeena in their U15 Group C away to Knockmore. A flurry of early goals and points as a result of excellent defensive work combined with snappy link-up play, quality ball delivered into the forward line and crisp finishing, meant that at half time the score was Knockmore 0-2, Kilmeena 6-05. The second half was more even with both teams trading scores but Kilmeena simply had too much for a shell-shocked Knockmore. The match finished Knockmore 1-10, Kilmeena 7-08. This result means that we have given ourselves a fighting chance of progressing to the knockout stages if we can produce a similar performance at home to Carras, who have won both of their fixtures, next Thursday week, 19th October. Kilmeena GAA had a presentation to all our cubs U5’s to U8’s. All the children received an O’ Neills football and a cubs certificate each. A great evening was had by all. We would like to thank Westrock for sponsoring the footballs for each child. Go raibh míle to all the sponsors this year for making the Cubs Academy such a success in its first year. Thank you to all coaches for their hard work during the year. Without you all this wouldn’t have been possible. We were also honored to have our Club President Austin Gibbons and also our hard working Chairman, John McDonald, with us for the presentation. We also had some special guests give out the gifts to our Cubs. We welcomed Eabha Carney, who played with Mayo Minors this year and our Senior club captain Sean Ryder. We wish them well for the remainder of their club championships. Last but by no means least, we want to thank Siobhan Golden for bringing the coffee truck to Cubs Academy on a Thursday evening. It was much appreciated and went down a treat! Cubs will continue to run until the end of September. - Ladies just miss out in League Final
The Kilmeena ladies took on Breaffy in the Junior B league final on Sunday 10th Sept in Bekan. In what was to be an extremely well matched game, the Kilmeena ladies struck the first blow with a point from Emma Murray. However the Breaffy ladies weren’t long repsonding and found the back of the net a few minutes later. Breaffy’s defence were well organised and hard to penetrate however points from Eabha Carney, Sheila Bohan and Ciara Joyce kept the laides in the game. The Kilmeena defence were also playing well and limited Breaffy to 3 points for the rest of the half. Breaffy leading by 1 point at half time. The second half was just a tight as the first and with the intense heat every opportuinity was taken to get water onto the pitch. Breaffy started to pull ahead and looked to be putting the game out of Kilmeena’s reach. However goals form Eabha Craney and Ciara Joyce had Kilmeena right back in the game. It wasn’t to be for the Kilmeena ladies as they lost out by the narrowest of margins on a score of 2-10 to 2-09. Match report by Pete Mortimor Photos by Mary Kelly

- Kilmeena U-16 C West Mayo Champions
The U16 boys ventured south to face off against Tourmakeady in their own backyard in the West Mayo U16 C Final on a bright Thursday evening. After heavy losses both home and away to these opponents in recent previous outings, the lads were highly motivated to reverse the trend and come out on top. With the success of the U16 girls squad in their own final the previous evening, a small bit of extra pressure may have been added! Kilmeena struck first upon winning the throw-in when Adam Moran scored from distance. Cormac Slattery added to the early lead, slotting over off his left. Tourmakeady latched on a point of their own, but after Cormac O’Malley showed some brilliant footwork to wriggle through the Tourmakeady backline and place one firmly into the back of the net, the game looked set to open up. Tourmakeady threatened at the other end however, racking up some scores of their own from range. Kilmeena ended the half on a positive note through Brendon Witzl, whose strike at goal rebounded back to him off the keeper and he was awake to volley it in to give us some breathing room at the break. Half time score: Tourmakeady 0-4 Kilmeena 2-2 Kilmeena ignited the half’s scoring once again when Aaron Murray put the ball over the black spot straight from the restart, and when Kevin Hastings added a third goal for us, we looked set to pull away. A score from Cormac Slattery and a couple of frees from Cormac O’Malley widened the margin even further. To their credit however, Tourmakeady were determined not to go down without a fight. They kept the scoreboard ticking over with points throughout the final quarter and were vigorous in their efforts for an all-important goal to put the game within their reach. But our lads continued to defend tirelessly even when we were reduced to fourteen players near the end. Louie Corcoran again had a great game in goal and pulled off a number of important saves in the latter stages of the game. A late point from distance by Dean Staunton was the cherry on top, as the referee blew the final whistle and we emerged victorious! There was great joy and celebrations on the pitch afterwards as captain Louie Corcoran was presented with the cup by John Gibbons from the West Mayo GAA board. A lot of credit is due to the team spirit and self belief of this group of lads, and the coaches would encourage all of the players to keep up these high standards in training as they now split up into the U15 and U17 groups. Full time score at Páirc Naomh Muire: Tourmakeady 0-9 Kilmeena 3-7 Thanks to Ollie Mulchrone for taking Photos on the evening! - Kilmeena V Louisburgh Intermediate C/ship R2
Kilmeena travelled to Louisburgh in a highly anticipated clash between the Clew Bay neighbours. The game was full of twists and turns. This started with a instant goal from Coalach Halligan. This was the ideal foundation for the game however Louisburgh returned the favour 8 minutes later. This time Louisburgh pushed on from this goal and they never looked back. Two missed goal opportunitys would come back to bite Kilmeena. The scoreline ended with Louisburgh victors. Kilmeena 1 - 10 Louisburgh 1 - 12 More photos here

- U13 Girls v. Davitts
Our U13’s hosted a strong Davitts team this evening. Kilmeena girls got off to the strongest starts after some good linkage by our forwards resulting in two goals in quick succession. The first quater was a one way affair with our girls storming forward at every opportunity with a flurry of goals and points. The second quater saw our opponents try to work their way back into the game but it proved difficult when the attacks were met with Kilmeena’s solid defence. The final quater was saw Davits claw back the defecit by scoring 3 goals which added to the excitment of the closing minutes but credit must be given to our girls who dug deep showing great determination and resilence to secure the win. Final score: Kilmeena 5-06 Davitts 4-02
