Minor Ladies v McHale Rovers 22nd August 2018


The minor ladies qualified for a county semi-final by beating McHale Rovers on Wednesday evening in Kilmeena. Kilmeena played with the aid of the wind in the first half and played some great free flowing football. Two goals by Shannon Bourke and one each by Katie Hogan and Aoife Lavelle put Kilmeena in control. Some great points by Hogan and Bourke were added to by Sarah Harper, Sophie Flynn and a long-range effort by Lily Brady. Kilmeena fought for every ball in the first period and went in leading by 4 – 06 to 0 – 04 at half time. McHale rovers piled on the pressure in the second period and reduced the margin to 2 points with 10 minutes remaining. Kilmeena defending heroically to stay in front. Katie Hogan and Shannon Bourke scored vital points to extend the lead in the closing minutes. Some great saves by Susannah Horgan and super defending by Dearbhla Grealis, Ava Ryder and Nina stood out. This was a wonderful team effort and a brilliant result for the team who had been beaten by 11 points by the same opposition less than 6 weeks earlier. Kilmeena will now face The Neale in their first county semi-final.
