Kilmeena V Bohola U16 Boys A C/Ship Playoff 2018-08-07

Kilmeena hosted Bohola Moy Davitts in this playoff match; at stake a place in the ‘A’ Championship Semi-final on Sunday next. Weatherwise, conditions were generally good for football – cloudy with a stiff breeze and a little damp in the second half. The visitors got off to the better start, scoring two points before Ronan O’Donnell converted a free to open Kilmeena’s account. A few minutes later Kilmeena scored their first from play to level matters at two points apiece on the ten minute mark. In truth were it not for some sloppy play and poor shot selection against a strong breeze, Kilmeena should have had a few more scores on the board as the men in black and white were effectively camped in the Moy Davitts half for much of this early period. Instead, Bohola Moy Davitts took the initiative and aided by the stiff breeze, they won the lion’s share of both their own and Kilmeena’s kickouts; which allowed them a period of dominance and a return of four more points to give a scoreline of 0 – 7 to 0 – 2 coming up to the small whistle. With Kilmeena struggling, a couple of positional changes were made and the home side got back on the scoreboard again with two further points before half time. Bohola Moy Davitts managed the final score of this period to leave it double scores at half time; Kilmeena 0 – 4, Bohola Moy Davitts 0 - 8 The second half began much as the first half had finished – both teams exchanged a couple of points but scores were generally difficult to come by in the opening 10 minutes of this period. Then a 4-minute purple patch for the home side yielded two majors. The two man full forward line of Cillian O’Grady and Sean Prenty linked up; with O’Grady the provider and Prenty the finisher on each occasion, Kilmeena were suddenly 3 points up. But Bohola Moy Davitts were not done just yet and when Kilmeena were reduced to 14 men in the last ten minutes, the visitors managed to outscore the home side by 4 points to 2 but alas it wasn’t enough to deny the men in Black & White a place against Castlebar Mitchells next Sunday morning.

Not a game of supreme quality this evening but a win is a win...!
