On a wet and wild Monday evening, our brave U14 ladies took to Pitch #3 in Bekan, determined to bring home county honours. Standing in their way was a resolute and well-prepared McHale Rovers side.

Winning the toss gave Kilmeena the advantage of a strong wind at their backs in the first half. From the opening whistle, the game was played at a ferocious pace. While the wind aided our kickouts, the driving rain made every touch and tackle more difficult.

Kilmeena started the brighter of the two teams, showing real hunger and intent. They played some of their best football of the season—fast, direct, and intelligent. Their hard work was clearly reflected on the scoreboard at halftime, leading 4-05 to 1-00.

After the break, and with some key sideline adjustments, McHale Rovers came out with renewed intensity. With the wind now at their backs and some fresh legs on the pitch, they enjoyed a purple patch, challenging our defence with some key scores.

But this Kilmeena team has grit. Despite the conditions worsening, they regrouped, dug deep, and played for each other. Their teamwork shone through—turnovers were won, attacks were built, and crucial scores followed. We added an impressive 3 goals and 3 points in the second half to keep the pressure on.

At the final whistle, Kilmeena emerged victorious in a thrilling contest: 8-06 to 5-04.

A massive thank you to our two younger players, Eleanor and Amy, who stepped up superbly, and to the dedicated parents who made the trip to Bekan and stood proudly on the sidelines through wind and rain.

Well done, girls—you’ve done the club proud!
