Kilmeena U16s win the C Shield County Final in style

The Kilmeena U16 lads faced off against Moy Davitts in the Shield Final in Burrishoole last Thursday evening, and it was also their third meeting of the year. The previous games went Kilmeena's way, with a couple of points between them on one occasion. So the final encounter was always going to be the one to win on the last day of the season.

The evening was wet, with so many decisions that could have been crucial to the outcome. Kilmeena were in a good position just before halftime. But a controversial decision by the referee to give a black card and a penalty with the new rule, as it was way outside the box, brought Kilmeena to 14 players and a goal for Moy Davitts. This closed the gap, taking the build-up of a lead by Kilmeena back to 4 points at the break.

The second half started with 14 players for Kilmeena for the first eight minutes, and Moy Davitts capitalised on this advantage, getting a point on the board to close the gap even further.

When Kilmeena were back with 15 players, they took control of the game. Some great displays of defending in the back, to working the ball through the hands up the field to produce some wonderful scores.

Kilmeena saw the game out when Moy Davitts' keeper pulled down a player, and he received a black card and a penalty was awarded to Kilmeena. The penalty was converted after the first attempt was saved. The final score on the evening was 3-13 to Kilmeena and Moy Davitts, with 1-07.

Overall, a well-deserved win for Kilmeena on the evening.
