In the end, this was a comprehensive win for the Kilmeenaladies in this final Round encounter of the Memorial League. Winning at home against Mayo Gaels puts Kilmeena at the top of the group and through to a semi-final in two weeks’ time.
One might expect an 8pm thrown in on 3rd July to provide bright calm weather conditions but no, mother nature insteaddished out a stiff westerly breeze with damp/grey conditions.
With the wind at their backs, the visitors kept the contest competitive during the first half. Although the home side led at the short whistle, Mayo Gaels did create opportunities too during the opening thirty minutes.
Kilmeena had the aid of the stiff breeze for the second half and the home side duly capitalised, scoring 3 – 11 in the process.
