Kilmeena LGFA – Adult League, Round 4 Kilmeena vs Kilmaine

A comprehensive win on home soil for the Kilmeena Adult Ladies team.

Following weeks of relentlessly poor weather with little opportunity to train on a grass surface and the postponement of fixtures, the sun finally shone and the winds abated, making for ideal weather conditions as Kilmeena hosted the Kilmaine ladies in this fourth round of the Adult League.

In a low scoring first half, Kilmeena owned the ball for long periods in which they defended well and attacked at pace through the centre third of the field. However, some poor finishing meant that the home side was unable to make it count on the scoreboard during the opening half.

Nonetheless, Kilmeena led by four points to Kilmaine’s solitary point at the small whistle.

Having done everything bar convert enough scores in the first half, Kilmeena began the second half with intent. From the throw-in, the home side got possession and utilising goodrunning support play the ball was moved rapidly to the scoring zone and finished to the back of the Kilmaine net, in a fashion that left the visiting side’s net minder little chance.

Thereafter, Kilmeena controlled the game, especially around the middle third, including pressing the Kilmaine kick-outs. This provided a platform for attack and unlike in the first half,the Kilmeena ladies took most of the scoring opportunities they created in the second half, in all accumulating four goals and seven points in the final 30 minutes.

Whilst there were many good individual performances the result today was manufactured through the collective hard work of the team and subs.
