Throughout the county, there have been events for Men’s Health Week. On Friday evening, Kilmeena GAA Club held a men’s health talk in the clubhouse.
The men in attendance listened to the personal stories and lived experiences of two great men.
Pat O’Donnell known so well to us all told us of his personal story and shared his experience of a cardiac event in his life. A story which made us all look at and recognise unnecessary pressures in our lives. Thank you Pat for sharing your story.
Martin McHugh, Leitrim GAA legend detailed his personal journey through testicular and prostate cancer. The comradeship and support from his GAA club and team strengthened his determination to do battle with his cancer and get back on the pitch. Thank you Martin for sharing your story.
In the background, was Avril the nurse from Croi who is a genius with a blood pressure cuff. All our men in attendance were offered free cardiac screening and advice on how to make small changes in their lives to improve their cardiac health.
Thank you to our speakers Martin and Pat for sharing your stories. To Croi and Avril for providing the cardiac screening. Thank you to our Healthy Club team for organising this event.
This current phase of GAA Healthy Club project comes to an end in August. Thank you everyone for supporting all the initiatives undertaken by the Healthy Club team since the start of this current phase of the project.
