Having reached their first final since their formation, Kilmeena ladies lost out to the more experienced Kiltane side in an epic Frank Kelly Memorial Cup final in McGovern Park Burrishoole on Friday evening last. Leading by a point up to the final minute of full time, Kilmeena relinquished their lead following sustained attacks on goal by the Kiltane ladies to take the game to extra time. However, Kilmeena could not register a score in the added period, allowing Kiltane to emerge as the eventual winners following a most exciting and skilful game that the large attendance at the match enjoyed.
This was only the second loss recorded by the Kilmeena girls throughout the entire league campaign; as it turned out, it was also against Kiltane in the first round. However, the experience gained from this round of league games will stand them in good stead in the upcoming championship. Well done, ladies - a massive accomplishment in your first year!
Kilmeena 2 - 6 1 - 12 Kiltane
